Bridgeland’s 2012 Summer Camps Will Keep Kids Busy in Cypress

(Cypress, TX – May 7, 2012) From explorations of the great outdoors to building simple working machines with Legos, kids will have so much fun at Bridgeland’s range of summer camps they may not even realize they are learning.

Camps are open to the public and will be held either at Lakeland Activity Center, 16919 North Bridgeland Lake Parkway, or at an adjacent park. Registration is now open, and can be made online at http://www.bridgelandlife.com/registration unless otherwise noted.

Several camps are planned for young nature-lovers, ages 6 to 12. Classes will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and include Butterflies, Caterpillars and other Cool Pollinating Insects, June 8; Nature Discovery with Herbs and Ladybugs, July 17; From the Slimy to the Beautiful…Earthworms and Sunflowers, July 25; and Hummingbirds and Eastern Bluebirds, Aug. 2. Cost is $50 for residents and $60 for non-residents.

Seven weeklong classes are on the schedule for artists, ages 4-11. Children ages 4 to 6 can attend sessions 9-10 a.m. or 1-2 p.m. while older children have camp 10:15-11:15 a.m. or 2:15-3:15 a.m. Cost is $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Topics include: Clay and 3D Art, June 4-7; Under the Sea Summer Art Fun, June 18-21; Come Cruise with Us, Art From Around the World, June 25-28; All American Fun, July 2-3; Fun in the Sun, July 9-12; Tropical Paradise, Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice, July 30-Aug. 2; and Back to School Fun, Aug. 6-9.

The Building Brains educational program returns to Bridgeland with camps for kids ages 4 to 12. Four- and five-year-old campers will meet 9 a.m. to noon and older students will meet either 9 a.m. to noon, 1-4 p.m. or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 4-8, June 18-22, July 16-20, July 30-Aug. 3 or Aug. 13-17. Cost for half-day camps is $175 for residents and $200 for non-residents. Full-day sessions are $250 for residents and $275 for non-residents. Camp activities reinforce classroom curriculum, with students using colors, sizes and shapes to build simple machines and then performing scientific experiments to see how those machines work. Participants will use Duplo, Lego and K’Nex kits to build their machines.

Project IDEA (Innovate, Discover, Explore and Achieve) will host four camps for kids, ages 5-10 in Bridgeland this year: Fashion Design Institute, June 11-15; Hogwarts Express Summer Camp, June 25-29; Ready, Camera, Action, July 9-13; and Candy Factory, Aug. 6-10. Camps will be offered 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $215. Register at www.ProjectIDEAkids.com.

Other camps in Bridgeland this summer include the Texas Stars Summer Camp June 11-15 for children interested in musical theater. Campers ages 12-18 will attend 1-3:30 p.m. while those ages 7-12 will attend 9:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $150 for residents and $175 for non-residents. A soccer camp is planned from 5:30-8 p.m. Aug. 6-10, for children ages 5 to 11. Beginner- and intermediate-level players will work on improving ball control, foot skills and moves. Cost is $40 for residents or $50 for non-residents. Candice Koern, director of theater at Cy-Fair High School, will teach the fundamentals of theater during a drama camp July 23-27 for children ages 6 and up. Students will learn improvisation, storytelling, characterization, movement and creative expression. Family and friends can attend a special camp performance the last day. There Are Bald Eagles Flying Around Cypress, TX!

If you are out and about in the Cypress area, keep your eye out for a pair of Bald Eagles who have recently decided to call Cypress home.

The Cypress Times first mentioned the eagles being seen in a pine tree in Northlake Forest a few weeks ago.

A couple of days later, I was taking my Jack Russell Terriers for a walk in Coles Crossing when I saw one of them soaring overhead. The white head and tail feathers along with the very large size of the bird makes it very difficult to miss!

Then last night, my sister posted on Facebook a couple of pictures of an eagle perched on top of a rooftop in their cul-de-sac in Cypress Creek Lakes! Very cool pics!

Cypress Creek Lakes to Add 5 New Builders | New Rec Center

MISCHER ANNOUNCES PLANS TO EXPAND MASTER-PLANNED CYPRESS CREEK LAKES

Mischer Development, the developer of the master-planned community Cypress Creek Lakes, has announced plans for a major expansion to include 700 acres that will consist of new building programs, new builders, a recreation center complex and a community welcome/information center.

Located less than two miles from US 290 in the Cypress area, Cypress Creek Lakes, which first opened in 2004, will add a 50-foot and a 70-foot building program to its existing 60-foot and 80-foot programs that have been a part of the community since its beginning.

Currently, Perry Homes and Coventry Homes are building on 80-foot home sites in the active Phase 2. The next phase of Cypress Creek Lakes will include Ashton Woods and Lennar in a new 50-foot program, Perry Homes and Newmark Homes in a 60-foot program and Darling Homes and Village Builders in a 70-foot program. New homes will range in price from the $190,000s to the $600,000s. Phase 3 will add over 1,000 new homes to the community.

“The additional programs represent a growing demand we’re seeing among new-home buyers and will be a great complement to our existing building programs,” said Randy Corson,Vice President of Mischer Development.

Sales in Cypress Creek Lakes were even with projections in 2011, and to date, are already ahead of last year. Corson believes that recent improvements in the housing market and the completion of major roadway expansions make now an ideal time to open this newest phase of the community. “The expanded building programs will help us meet a significant part of the market that we were missing previously,” he said.

In addition to an increased interest among new-home buyers, Cypress Creek Lakes is benefiting from the expansion of Tuckerton Road which runs through the new Phase 3. Tuckerton is now a major east-west connector, open from Fry Road to Huffmeister, and is greatly enhancing access within the Hwy. 290 corridor. The expansion of Tuckerton will also provide opportunities for future commercial development in Cypress Creek Lakes. Already, Metropolitan Baptist Church, The MET, purchased 100 acres at the southeast corner of Fry Road and Tuckerton for its West Campus that will begin construction later this year.

New Welcome/Recreation Site

Cypress Creek Lakes Phase 3 Rec Center

An eight-acre site in Phase 3 will be the location of a welcome center and recreation center. The $3 million complex will include a recreation center with a clubhouse, exercise/fitness room, competition size pool and children’s pool, a splash pad/water spray park, a playground and picnic/barbecue area and an information/welcome center.

The new welcome center, Corson said, will be designed to serve as a one-stop information source for new-home shoppers in the Cypress area, and will provide specifics on homes, amenities and schools in Cypress Creek Lakes, as well as information on major points of interest in the Cypress area such as major employment, medical and retail centers.

The state-of-the-art welcome center will also have separate spaces for Realtors to work with clients and a unique interactive system that will enable home shoppers to get an idea of available homes, home site sizes and their location in relation to specific areas within the community.

The opening of Phase 3 represents the final phase of the 1,600-acre community which has a projected build out of six to seven years. At its completion, Cypress Creek Lakes will have approximately 2,000 homes.

The second annual Cy-Fest will be held in Cypress, TX this weekend near the Houston Premium Outlet Mall in the master-planned community of Fairfield.

Cy-Fest is a three day festival from Friday, March 23rd through Sunday, March 25th. The festival will include food, rides, carnival games, and live music with Pat Green headlining the festival on Saturday night. Click here to see all of the bands performing at Cy-Fest.

Plane Crash Near Warner Elementary School in Cypress

A twin engine plane crashed near Warner Elementary School this evening. The plane was coming in from Mississippi headed to West Houston Airport when it reportedly ran out of gas.

According to Click2Houston.com:

Officials said the pilot tried landing in a field but saw children there and instead crash landed in the parking lot of the school.

No damage was done to the school building.

The plane’s wing clipped a pole, which tore the wing off, before hitting a fence between the school and a house.

The pilot was taken to the hospital. The pilot’s condition was not immediately released.
