(Cypress, TX – May 7, 2012) From explorations of the great outdoors to building simple working machines with Legos, kids will have so much fun at Bridgeland’s range of summer camps they may not even realize they are learning.
Camps are open to the public and will be held either at Lakeland Activity Center, 16919 North Bridgeland Lake Parkway, or at an adjacent park. Registration is now open, and can be made online at http://www.bridgelandlife.com/registration unless otherwise noted.
Several camps are planned for young nature-lovers, ages 6 to 12. Classes will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and include Butterflies, Caterpillars and other Cool Pollinating Insects, June 8; Nature Discovery with Herbs and Ladybugs, July 17; From the Slimy to the Beautiful…Earthworms and Sunflowers, July 25; and Hummingbirds and Eastern Bluebirds, Aug. 2. Cost is $50 for residents and $60 for non-residents.
Seven weeklong classes are on the schedule for artists, ages 4-11. Children ages 4 to 6 can attend sessions 9-10 a.m. or 1-2 p.m. while older children have camp 10:15-11:15 a.m. or 2:15-3:15 a.m. Cost is $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Topics include: Clay and 3D Art, June 4-7; Under the Sea Summer Art Fun, June 18-21; Come Cruise with Us, Art From Around the World, June 25-28; All American Fun, July 2-3; Fun in the Sun, July 9-12; Tropical Paradise, Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice, July 30-Aug. 2; and Back to School Fun, Aug. 6-9.
The Building Brains educational program returns to Bridgeland with camps for kids ages 4 to 12. Four- and five-year-old campers will meet 9 a.m. to noon and older students will meet either 9 a.m. to noon, 1-4 p.m. or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 4-8, June 18-22, July 16-20, July 30-Aug. 3 or Aug. 13-17. Cost for half-day camps is $175 for residents and $200 for non-residents. Full-day sessions are $250 for residents and $275 for non-residents. Camp activities reinforce classroom curriculum, with students using colors, sizes and shapes to build simple machines and then performing scientific experiments to see how those machines work. Participants will use Duplo, Lego and K’Nex kits to build their machines.
Project IDEA (Innovate, Discover, Explore and Achieve) will host four camps for kids, ages 5-10 in Bridgeland this year: Fashion Design Institute, June 11-15; Hogwarts Express Summer Camp, June 25-29; Ready, Camera, Action, July 9-13; and Candy Factory, Aug. 6-10. Other camps in Bridgeland this summer include the Texas Stars Summer Camp June 11-15 for children interested in musical theater. Campers ages 12-18 will attend 1-3:30 p.m. while those ages 7-12 will attend 9:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $150 for residents and $175 for non-residents. A soccer camp is planned from 5:30-8 p.m. Aug. 6-10, for children ages 5 to 11. Beginner- and intermediate-level players will work on improving ball control, foot skills and moves. Cost is $40 for residents or $50 for non-residents. Candice Koern, director of theater at Cy-Fair High School, will teach the fundamentals of theater during a drama camp July 23-27 for children ages 6 and up. Students will learn improvisation, storytelling, characterization, movement and creative expression. Family and friends can attend a special camp performance the last day.
